Blackburn with Darwen, United Kingdom District Enforcement Ltd Full time

Environmental Crime in the Community is something that we must all work together on to reduce. The role of an Environmental Enforcement Officer will see you undertaking a range of different activities within the local community to address this problem.

District Enforcement work in partnership with Local Authorities and we have embarked on a new contract with Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. We are now looking for outstanding individuals to collaborate with our team of Enforcement officers.

Officers are given designated powers and will conduct foot patrol across the Borough. In the case of witnessing an offence such as littering or dog fouling, you will be required to issue a Fixed Penalty Notice to the offender, whilst offering advice and providing information which will hopefully result in long-term behavioural changes amongst individuals.

**About the area**

Blackburn with Darwen is a semi-rural unitary borough located in the east of Lancashire. It has compact urban areas predominately but not exclusively located around the towns of Blackburn and Darwen. The area is surrounded by countryside and features a number of small rural villages and hamlets.

Blackburn with Darwen borders Bury and Bolton in the south, Chorley in the west, Hyndburn and Rossendale in the east and the Ribble Valley in the north.

**Getting around**

The borough is well located with good transport and infrastructure links to the rest of Lancashire, Greater Manchester and beyond. Blackburn and Darwen are both served by the Clitheroe to Rochdale rail line. Blackburn is also served by the York to Blackpool line and the Blackburn to Manchester Victoria Line.

The borough's road infrastructure allows good connectivity, with the A666 providing an access corridor to Bolton, Greater Manchester, Yorkshire and the Ribble Valley. The borough also hosts three motorway junctions of the M65 which provides quick access to Preston, Burnley and the rest of Lancashire, the M61, the M66 and the M6.

**About you**

Ideally, we are looking for a person who is motivated, and holds the right skill sets and behaviours, to work independently, whilst supporting their colleagues and working as part of a team to deliver an outstanding service within the community.
- Do you care about the community where you live?
- Are you looking for a career change?
- Do you consistently act with conscience and integrity?
- Are you willing to build and collaborate with a team to achieve excellence whilst acting as ambassadors to Blackburn with Darwen Council?
- Are you enthusiastic about the Environment and want to make a real difference?
- Are you able to engage with people, and do you hold effective communication skills?
- Do you enjoy working as part of a team?
- Do you have basic IT skills and are able to use technology/smart phones?
- Do you think you have what it takes to stand up to those who break the law?
- Do you hold a full UK Driving Licence?

If so, we provide great training, collaborating with experienced officers, which will compliment your existing skills to make you an excellent enforcement officer.

We are looking for full-time positions, to fit with the core needs of the business over a 40 hour working week. A rolling rota in place to assist with a 5 on 2 off shift pattern to include some weekends. Consideration can also be given to different working patterns/job share. Further details will be provided at interview.

This is an interesting and challenging role and tackling Environmental Crime does make a difference. As representatives of both the Company and the Local Authority, you will need to be highly motivated and should have a GCSE in Mathematics and English (or equivalent NVQ - key skills). You must be able to conduct foot patrol for a major part of your daily shift and be able to patrol in all weather conditions.
