Procurement Team Leader

**About the role**
The Purchasing team are responsible for sourcing and stocking products and services via the most cost-effective method, whilst balancing both customer and business needs.
Supporting Sales and the wider business, the Purchasing team expedite purchase orders, negotiate with suppliers and distributors striving for commercially advantageous positions and ensure that appropriate stocking/fulfilment methodologies are implemented across the business.
Reporting to the Head of Procurement, the Procurement Team Leader will guide and support the individuals within the Purchasing Team to ensure that KPI’s are met and results are delivered against a well-considered and effective procurement strategy.
**Key activities and Responsibilities are (but not limited to)**:
- Mentor and coach a team of buyers to enhance their career and professional development
- Ensure adequate cover and succession planning to mitigate any potential exposures within the team
- Identify, design and implement new workflows and system improvements to maximise output from the buyer’s
- Drive and support the wider business with supply chain initiative
- Identify and discuss stocking opportunities with the senior buyers
- Develop, improve and document procurement policies, processes and procedures
- Set clear targets, milestones and KPIs with the buyers, regularly review progress and assist them in learning and adjusting accordingly
- Demonstrate thought leadership and creative idea generation and foster this behaviour throughout the purchasing team in order to maximise profitability and minimise any supply or stocking risks to the business
- Develop strong relationships and negotiate with suppliers and vendors to ensure that the business gains competitive advantage in the channel and can effectively foresee and respond to changes in a timely manner
- Manage escalations from the wider business effectively and professionally
- Handle supplier relationships as per the company ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 procedures
- Negotiate supplier agreements where appropriate including discount structures, payment terms and volume rebate using methods such as cost transparency and benchmarking.
- Working with sales and the senior buyers to ensure budgets and invoice forecast targets are met
**Skills and Knowledge**:
- Strong, proactive communication skills, able to gain commitment and buy-in to a common vision and clearly stated goals
- Commercial acumen providing the ability to make and justify decisions
- Ability to quickly learn and retain knowledge with regards to products and processes
- Desire to provide excellent service to both internal and external customers
- Possesses the energy, passion, resilience and commitment required to realise goals
- Is assertive, optimistic and open to change
- Engages interest and participation of others and has a collaborative approach
- Resilient, self-motivated and able to work under pressure
- Understands the necessity, can prioritise workload and meet deadline’s
- Highly skilled at building and maintaining effective and productive relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
- Strong negotiation, communication, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Strong team leadership and administration skills with good knowledge of procurement and financial systems
**Education, Qualification and Training**:
- Ideally a BTEC in Business administration or IT
- Previous experience of managing individuals
