Intensive Needs Night Support Worker

Job Type
- Permanent & Part Time (36 hours per week)

Salary - £24,195 Per Annum

Location - Lincoln

Shift Pattern - 4 nights on (22:00 - 08:15), 4 nights off

If you are looking for the role that every support worker dreams of
- no big case load, just focused time with up to 2 young people allowing you to make a positive impact on every shift
- then look no further

Here at NEST (Nacro Education, Support and Transition) we are commissioned by Lincolnshire County Council Children Services to provide safe and stable accommodation to 16-21 year olds across the county of Lincolnshire. Within NEST we have 3 Intensive Need houses, these are located within the city of Lincoln and are a short walk away from each other. The 3 houses are each home to 1 or 2 young people who are supported by a 24/7 staff team consisting of day, evening and dedicated night support workers. All three houses are well presented traditional Lincoln city homes and present as a typical family home in the community; all featuring a staff office.

Most of our young people have experienced some level of childhood trauma and, as such, they all have a variety of support needs varying from substance misuse, undiagnosed learning needs, a lack of independent living skills, offending behaviours and mental health needs. As a support worker you will support the young person 1-2-1 in their living environment, tailoring a support package around them based upon their current needs. For example, the young person may need support to cook so, as the support worker, you may devise a meal plan with them and arrange a cooking session each week. The young person may be NEET (not in education, employment or training) so, as a starting point, you may contact the local education providers and arrange to visit them with the young person. Or perhaps your young person needs support with their mental health so you may identify that outdoor activity helps them and, as such, you may arrange to complete a gardening task with them or arrange a long walk. Every day is so very different in this role as our young person’s support needs can be forever changing as they progress on their journey with us

Our young people can challenge, they can break house rules and push boundaries but, for many, they do this because they’ve never had any boundaries to follow; so they don’t know how to. Our young people will sometimes feel angry, hurt or upset and will not know how to communicate such emotions but, overtime, as they start to build up trust with you and see you as a positive person in their life they will more readily accept your support. Our existing support workers report that this is the most magical time for them, to see their young person achieve things that they’ve never achieved before and knowing that they have played a part in this

As a support worker here at NEST you will not be delivering any personal care, we do not restrain our young people nor do we supervise them out in the community. Our young people are fully functioning individuals who we treat as young adults and whom we actively ready for move on to a more independent setting. You will be offering advice and guidance to your young person and, through creative approaches, will actively encourage them to engage in direct support sessions with you. As with any support role there is an element of paperwork involved including action planning, safety planning and completion of other monitoring tools so that you can document the positive journey that your young person is on.

Our young people need individuals who will be creative and empathetic in their approach. They need empowering individuals supporting them, individuals who will be actively encouraging them to get up and start their day with a positive mindset. Resilient individuals who can remain calm, rational and maintain positive communication in a crisis situation. Our young people need someone who can lone work in their home, someone who is truly invested in maintaining a safe home for the young person.

All of our young people have a story to tell. Do you want to be a part of their story?

_A Full Driving License and access to vehicle are essential as occasionally there may be a requirement to work in the community and/ or service setting/ at other hub locations within Lincolnshire._

An Enhanced and Barred DBS check will be required for this role.
