Technical Operations Assistant

**Job Overview**:
We are seeking a Technical Operations Assistant to assist with the day-to-day running of laboratories, with responsibilities in Health & Safety, monitoring and maintaining laboratory materials/consumables, and upkeep of laboratory equipment/space. Working closely with Operations and Research teams ensuring the efficiency and optimisation of all laboratory practices.
**Responsibilities**:
**Health and Safety**
- Contribute to good laboratory practice and ensure the highest standard of laboratory safety is maintained at all times:
- Working within established Risk Assessments at all times.
- Continuous vigilance for improvements in H&S procedures; input into revising existing procedures and developing new Risk Assessments as required.
- Keeping material safety data sheets (MSDS) up-to-data and correctly accessible/archived.
- Monitoring and ensuring clear and correct labelling of lab materials - first aid kits, PPE, chemicals, waste etc.
- Ensure safe handling and disposal of all waste streams, including organic solvents and cytotoxic materials.
- Reporting of any arising hazards, accidents, and near-misses immediately, within company policies.
- Regular H&S audit of laboratory spaces, equipment, and H&S measures in place.
- Attendance of regular H&S meetings.
**Laboratory materials and consumables**
- Stocking of regular lab consumables, including PPE.
- Point of contact for deliveries: receive, unpack, and correctly store chemicals, PPE, lab consumables and equipment. Maintain a record of items delivered; notify relevant colleagues of deliveries.
- Monitor and coordinate safe restocking of nitrogen and carbon dioxide gas cylinders, and liquid nitrogen Dewar flasks.
- Adoption of company ordering processes - request quotes from suppliers, complete purchase orders and complete necessary paperwork to facilitate the procurement process; staying up to speed for sourcing new/better products.
- Audit past orders to identify items with long lead times and/or overdue delivery dates; flag any issues with stock availability, long lead times and delayed deliveries.
- Update stock lists; maintain and periodically audit biological and chemical inventories to ensure that the quantities and locations are correct, and materials are accurately labelled.
- Liaise with relevant team members for technical input on materials and consumables required by laboratory scientists.
- Coordinate shipments of materials between Iksuda and outsourced providers as necessary.
**Laboratory equipment and space**
- Maintaining general laboratory housekeeping, and performance of maintenance tasks. Liaise with contractors and scientists for technical input as required.
- Liaise with contractors to arrange regular service and calibration testing of fumehoods, analytical and specialist lab equipment, as required to maintain optimal performance.
- Coordinate safe disposal of expired chemicals, solvent, chemical and cytotoxic waste, working with approved contractors as necessary.
- Adoption of routine technical tasks, for example calibration of pH-meters, preparation of stock solutions, pipette calibration.
**Requirements**:
- A background in a technical field or relevant experience is preferred.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey information.
- Proficiency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Familiarity with technical terminology and concepts is advantageous.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment while also being self-motivated.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.

Pay: £25,000.00-£28,000.00 per year
