**Location: Patchway, North Bristol**

Our Collections team are now recruiting for an Archivist to join us and become part of a great team at Aerospace Bristol, a museum operated by registered charity Bristol Aero Collection Trust.

Aerospace Bristol houses a substantial company archive dating from 1910, which includes glass negatives, minute books, drawings on waxed linen and film, new media and ephemera. The archives are significant element of the overall collections of the Trust.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about archives and the opportunity to help shape and promote access to a range of audiences. As a core member of the collections team, you will work with colleagues across Aerospace Bristol to support core activities. Our ambition is to gain Accreditation for our archive service and the successful applicant would have a leading role in this process.

**Job Purpose**
- Continue a program of cataloguing, repacking, labelling and digitising the archive collections to recognised archive and museum standards.
- Answer enquiries and facilitate researcher access to the archive and reading room.
- In consultation with the Collections Manager, develop and promote the organisation’s archives and records management policies, procedures and standards, develop retention schedules to identify key records; establish procedures to protect and manage them.
- In consultation with the Collections Manager ensure the archives are accessible to a wide range of professionals, academics and the general public, by providing an on-site research facility and by answering public and internal enquiries.
- Work with the Collections Team and Learning and Outreach Team to highlight opportunities to use archive material in exhibition and outreach contexts.
- Manage the day-to-day activities of a volunteer team to carry out activities to support the cataloguing and accessibility of the archive collection.
- Work with the Collections Manager to develop and maintain relationships with parent companies to ensure that the archive continues to document current and future developments.
- Advise on conservation needs for the collection, referring to external conservation expertise as required.
- Provide regular progress and user reports.
- Ensure compliance with data protection and provide guidance on copyright and intellectual property matters.
- Keep up to date with professional standards and changes to the law where these relate to archives.
- Be proactive in seeking out opportunities to learn new skills.

**Requirements**:
**Essential**:

- A recognised post-graduate professional archival qualification
- A minimum of four years working in the archives sector
- Practical experience of cataloguing large, complex collections, using specialist software
- Proven experience of leading and motivating volunteers
- Good written and verbal communication skills including public speaking with an attention to detail and accuracy, producing high quality work to meet deadlines successfully.
- Excellent team working and organisational skills.
- Adaptable, proactive, able to rise to a challenge by providing innovative and practical solutions in a fast paced and customer focused environment.
- Able to work independently toward shared goals.
- Knowledge of relevant professional standards relating to the role.
- A working knowledge of data protection, copyright and Intellectual Property legislation

**Desirable**:

- A sound knowledge of Archive and/or Museum Accreditation
- Experience of cataloguing business archives
- Experience of using Adlib
- Interest in aerospace, engineering or social history
- Experience working within a museum setting
- Experience of developing exhibitions, outreach or learning activities based on archive materials

Special conditions: A reasonable level of physical fitness is essential since the lifting of boxes of records is a feature of the job
