Café and convenience shop within Portsmouth Cruise and Ferry Terminal

**Reports to**: Assistant Supervisor, Supervisor and/or Manager

**Job purpose**:Our Assistants prepare fresh food and drinks in the Ceanos cafés whilst maintaining a high standard of service and customer care in a friendly, welcoming and polite manner.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Assist with the running of the café including serving customers, preparing light snacks and cooking off fresh food products in line with recipe and café standards and the relevant food safety and health and safety legislation
- Maintain excellent standards of customer service, ensuring customers always feel welcomed and you aim to meet their needs every time, wherever possible
- Prepare the café for opening and ensure service and seating areas are clean
- Always ensure high levels of safety and hygiene throughout the café
- Consistently maintain the cleanliness including clearing and cleaning tables, chairs, work tops, counters and the floor, especially after peak times so that the café sets a good impression and is ready for new customers
- Tidy and clean the back of house areas as you go
- Restock the café shelves and fridges throughout the day, particularly after peak times, so they are full and presented nicely
- Ensure you are familiar with, and adhere to, FIFO stock rotation so there is mínimal wastage
- Report any stock nearing its expiry date, or items low in stock to the supervisor or manager
- Take temperature checks of the fridges and report findings on the record sheet - any issues should be reported to the supervisor or manager
- Handle cash and help customers with card payments
- Assist with accurate cashing up at the end of the day, if instructed in the absence of supervisor or manager
- Close down the café at the end of the day in line with standards
- Always promote a positive image of Ceanos
- Inform the supervisor or manager of any issues that could affect the smooth running of the café
- To undertake any other duties and responsibilities reasonably requested from time to time
- Portsmouth Assistants only: Assist with the shop, making sure shelves are full and stock is displayed and presented nicely.

**Personal competencies and qualities**
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Previous experience of working in a similar customer facing role and with food is desirable
- Enthusiastic and have interest in your job
- Able to work well under pressure with high customer traffic, well organised, take initiative and able to prioritise tasks
- Be willing to assist with a variety of different tasks and adapt to change
- Described as a trusted team member and able to work well without supervision
- Flexible with working hours
- Having cash handling experience is desirable

**Job Types**: Part-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £7.50-£9.75 per hour
