Dartford is the Borough of Kent adjoining London on the rivers Thames and Darent. Dartford’s connections are more than just the Dartford crossing:

- Dartford rail station, adjacent the Council offices, is the busiest in the County; part of the TfL Oyster card area, it links to a wide range of stations in London and in Kent via Thameslink and other services.
- Ebbsfleet International Rail Station (17mins to London) in the east of the Borough.
- Good bus services, including TfL buses in the Borough and the Fastrack rapid transit system.

Our focus is very much on sustainable development minimising car use, and complementary new infrastructure.

Dartford is one of the very fastest growing districts in the country, from planned new and extended communities on brownfield land. As a place of choice for international, national and local businesses, as well as Bluewater shopping centre and the Ebbsfleet Development Corporation; the Borough is a varied and exciting place to work on planning strategy for real change. We are now planning to 2037, and our focus is on Dartford Town Centre and securing large mixed use residential-led redevelopment in and around the town, as well as public realm and transport-related improvements. We have maintained a 5 year housing land supply, and the NPPF compliant Local Plan is being updated with new policies now at examination.

We are looking for a planner seeking a challenge, and with experience of actively contributing to Examination in Public Local Plan hearings. You will have very strong communication and professional analytical skills, producing timely concise written reports, and with a track record of making the case effectively in front of a Planning Inspector.

The post is temporary, with a planned appointment for a fixed period of 6 months.

We offer flexible arrangements, including a potentially phased (part time) start. You will work on a variety of strategic planning matters integrated within a small team, as the Council seeks to sustainably maintain its high levels of urban growth through the new Local Plan.

The interview date for this role will be **28th February**. You should be a qualified Town Planner with eligibility for or membership of the RTPI. Please note, this is advertised as a full time post but we are open to discussing flexible or reduced hours.
