**JOB DESCRIPTION**

**Job Title: Caretaker/ Maintenance Person**

**Responsible to**: The Manager and Deputy Manager

**Responsibilities**

Undertake the maintenance of Kilsby House to ensure its safety

**Outline of duties**
- Provide a maintenance service, undertaking a variety of tasks including decorating, carpentry, plumbing, carpeting, plastering etc. to ensure safe environments are maintained.
- Liaise with staff and management to assess material needed and time allocation for the required work
- With approval from manager, order and purchase the necessary materials, equipment for the work to be carried out
- Maintain tools, equipment and stock items to ensure that they are stored correctly and kept in good working order
- Ensure that the H&S checks are completed I.E. testing fire alarms, legionella, reporting any concerns regarding plant or equipment failure.
- Ensure working area is left clean and tidy at the end of each job to ensure a safe environment is maintained
- Use of hand tools and equipment within safety guidelines as necessary for ther completion of the work
- Be an active contributor as a member of the Health and Safety Committee
- Maintain accurate records for all maintenance related issues, including maintenance book; fire equipment testing/inspection records.
- If required to undertake on call duties to ensure that adverse weather support including snow clearance and gritting are attended to in and out of normal hours

- Ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English
- Able to recognise and deal with emergency situations
- Ability to plan and organize own workload, working independently as well as a team member
- Use of wide range of machinery/ equipment e.g. kitchen, gardening, general maintenance
- Ability to involve and enthuse others, such as residents and staff members, to take part in activities
- Physical ability and stamina to take part in a wide range of activities, including maneuvering wheelchairs and moving equipment
- A sympathetic and non-judgmental approach to older people with dementia, thus promoting an inclusive environment
- Proactive in personal development and training
- Must be a qualified driver with clean driving license

**Desirable qualities**
- Knowledge and experience of working with elderly people with dementia
