Childcare/nursery Apprentice

Here at Blue Door we are looking for someone who loves to be silly, doesn’t mind getting messy and who strives to make children feel safe and happy Someone who is passionate about working with children and can empathise with families, whilst always striving to offer them and their children the very best in childcare.

We care for children aged from 0 - 11 year olds, offering full day care for 0-5 year old, wraparound to 4 local school nurseries for 3-4 year olds, before and after school care for 4-11 year olds, we also run through the majority of the holidays, providing full time holiday clubs.

We undertake a variety of activities throughout the day. You could be helping a child find their inner Picasso, the next Mary Berry, or emulating Peppa Pig, by jumping in muddy puddles

Our days are varied, with walking the children back and for to school, going on outings, planning activities and supervising children's play decisions. In addition, you will be asked to prepare snacks and small meals for the children, following our strong ethos that the food we serve our children, is of the highest standard, sustainable and highly nutritious as demonstrated by our Catering Mark Food For Life, Silver Catering Award and Cardiff County Council Gold Snack Award plus, you would be given full training and support with this.

We are not a fluent Welsh speaking setting, but we are desperately looking for more Welsh speakers to help us make the Cardiff citizens of tomorrow bilingual, so any Welsh Language skills would be a bonus and viewed favourably.

If current certificates are not held, you will be placed on courses for Food Hygiene, Child Protection, First Aid and Manual Handling Training, in addition you will be actively encouraged to attend a variety of other courses to help you in your role, all funded by us. Your, Continuous Personal Development is something we feel strongly about and offer encouragement and support, every step of the way. All training courses are fully funded and you will be paid overtime for attending.

Shifts vary on what is available, so this can be discussed at interview. A minimum of 16 hours will be offered, with a maximum of 40 hours per contract. Overtime is also available.

We pay over the apprentice minimum wage, at £6.08 per hour and bonuses will be applied at different stages of your progress, up to £1,000.

After 12 months, you will automatically go onto the NMW for your age, as a minimum.
