This role will also involve travelling to clients in the Essex area and so a driving licence and car, or ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.
**The Role**
The Internal Audit and Counter Fraud Team provides risk-based and objective assurance, advice and insight regarding the management of risks within the Council. They also play a key role in the prevention, detection and investigation of fraud.
**The Opportunity**
The Trainee Internal Auditor will support delivery of internal audit activity for both the Council's internal and external clients.
The Trainee Internal Auditor will receive training on a range of audit related tasks including; research and planning, testing and reporting. Over the duration of the training period the tasks will become progressively more complex until the Trainee cantake full responsibility for audit delivery.
The Trainee Internal Auditor will be a graduate and will undertake professional training towards the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) Certified Internal Auditor qualification whilst working in this full time role.
**Accountabilities**
- Study towards the Chartered Institute of Internal Auditors (CIIA) Certified Internal Auditor qualification and to undertake the training programme with due diligence and commitment.
- Responsible for delivering Internal Audit service tasks and assignments efficiently and effectively, within agreed budgets, ensuring appropriate technical standards are met.
- Ensuring that working papers and audit files are maintained in compliance with internal quality standards and the Public Sector Internal Audit Standards.
- Self-managing the delivery of allocated assignments or tasks, prioritising and proactively reporting any delivery slippage to the Internal Audit Delivery Manager and /or the Strategic Internal Audit Manager.
- Preparation and presentation to the relevant auditee of the final report, ensuring that recommendations are proportionate to risk, practical and add value to the client
- Work collaboratively with client personnel at appropriate levels, committed to improving client satisfaction, ensuring engagement objectives and expectations are developed with the client and their needs are met.
- Undertake other special assignments as required, such as supporting the Counter Fraud Team or supporting the Head of Assurance with reporting requirements.
- Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
