**Site Maintenance Staff**

**Location**: South Lee Prep School & Nursery, Nowton Road, Bury St Edmunds
**Hours**: 07:00 to 16:00 including an hour unpaid for lunch. Full Time Position
**Salary**: £21,500 per annum
**Probationary Period**:Six months
**Reports To**:School Business Manager and Site Manager
We are looking for a member of the Site Maintenance Team to join our hard-working and inclusive staff.
**Purpose of the Role**
You will contribute to a wide variety of tasks including daily unlocking of the site buildings, maintenance of school buildings, machines and vehicles, decoration, repair, gardening. No day is the same and it is never boring You will be required to understand the workings of a school - that the pupils are our priority and their safeguarding and health, and safety is always key.
This role may also be combined with the School Minibus driver role.
**Key Responsibilities**
**Security**
Unlock the premises and check the grounds and buildings at the start of each day.
**Statutory Inspections**
The Site Maintenance Staff will assist the Site Manager and School Business Manager in maintaining and recording statutory inspections, including, but not limited to:
- Asbestos Register
- Tree Surveys
- Electrical Inspections
- Water and Legionella testing
- Fire and intruder alarm testing
- Fire Extinguisher inspections
- Ladder inspections
- Annual portable electrical appliance testing (PAT)
- Liaison with Independent School Inspectorate compliance inspectors during ISI inspections of the school
**Maintenance**
- Many and varied tasks, including but not limited to:
- Repair and maintenance of equipment
- Painting and decorating
- Putting up shelves
- Changing tap washers
- Repairing and installing door furniture
- General repairs and carpentry
- Changing light bulb, including working at height
- Gutter clearance
- Purchasing parts, equipment, and supplies on behalf of the School Business Manager, including negotiating the best prices possible
**School Improvement**
- Paint and decorate classrooms, corridors, and other areas to maintain and improve school’s physical appearance
- Support physical school improvement inside and outside on the school grounds including the Forest School Area
**Garden and Grounds**
- Maintain the grounds to ensure that they are clean and tidy
- Cut grass, trim hedges, maintain flower beds and baskets
- Repairs to outdoor play equipment
- Repairs to hard surfacing, concrete, and brickwork
- Maintenance and repairs to drainage system
**Vehicles**
- Liaise with the Site Manager to assist with the routine and breakdown maintenance of school minibuses and van
**Lunchtime**
- Assist with setting up and putting away tables at the beginning and end of lunch and sweeping the halls after lunches
**Cleaning**
- From time to time, it is necessary for the site maintenance operative to carry out ad-hoc cleaning tasks, including children’s toilets
**Health and Safety and Equipment**
- The Site Maintenance Technician is encouraged to work in such a way as to ensure the Health and Safety of himself and others at all times
- All necessary equipment and tools will be provided by the school
- All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided by the school, as deemed necessary by the School Business Manager and the Site Manager, having regard to the Health and Safety at Work Act and all relevant legislation and regulations
- It is the responsibility of the Site Maintenance Technician to ensure that the equipment provided is used correctly at all times
- All training will be provided by the school to ensure the Health and Safety of the Site Maintenance Technician. It is the responsibility of the Site Maintenance Technician to ensure that he is comfortable that the correct level of training and protection has been provided
**Other Duties and Responsibilities**
- Assisting the Site Manager and School Business Manager in the daily running and maintenance of all aspects of the school
- Suggest and carry out improvements to the presentation of the site
- Liaise with outside contractors on routine maintenance and specific projects
- Take a proactive approach to the maintenance and presentation of the school
- The Site Maintenance Technician is obliged to work in such a way as to ensure the Health and Safety of himself and others
- Help to collate information to plan maintenance
- Support the aims and ethos of the school
- Set a good example in terms of dress, punctuality, and attendance
- To promote the school
- The school has a high profile, and the school’s Site Maintenance team is expected to help maintain that profile
