**Job description / summary**

To support care of the residents by ensuring that the home is kept clean, safe from infection and laundry is dealt with safely and efficiently. Working as part of a 24hr team with flexibility to cover sick leave/holidays of colleagues. Public holiday working may be required.

**Work environment**

The home is run by Christian principles with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere of care, consideration and concern. Residents must feel at ease and secure with as full a part in the life of the home as possible.

**Main responsibilities**
- To assist with kitchen duties at mealtimes.
- To dust and vacuum main areas of the home.
- To clean and tidy residents’ bedrooms on a rota basis.
- To wash, iron, repair and store residents’ clothing and household linen.
- To ensure residents’ garments are marked with name tags.
- To maintain health and hygiene regulations as per company policy.
- To wear protective clothing as appropriate and in keeping with COSSH regulations.
- To conform to manual handling techniques and risk assessments.
- To maintain correct records.
- Ensure stocks of cleaning materials are adequate at all times.
- To undertake appropriate training, as determined by the manager/ deputy.
- To carry out such other duties as may be reasonably required by the manager/ deputy.

**Knowledge / experience required**

Experience of normal household duties and knowledge of care of the elderly is an advantage. Basic knowledge of the sewing is an advantage.

**Personal attributes required**

Must be physically fit, reliable and honest, able to work and be adaptable, preferably with a cheerful disposition and practical approach.
