**Your Role**:**The Times is looking for a breaking news reporter. You will be a reporter able to file fast, clean copy with a track record of covering live stories across a broad range of topics. Experience with live blogs is a must, as is a keen interest in politics and foreign affairs, and the ambition to land your own exclusives.
**Day to day you will**:
- Cover major breaking news stories across a broad range of areas
- Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy to strict deadlines
- Commission visual storytelling elements such as videos, charts, graphics, maps and designs
- Pitch agenda-setting exclusive story ideas to the news desk
- Help with editing the homepage where circumstances demand it
**What we’re looking for from you**:
- NCTJ qualification, masters or undergraduate degree in journalism
- Experience filing breaking news for a national or regional news website
- Expertise and interest in current affairs and politics
- Attention to detail and meticulous fact-checking
- Reliable and fast under pressure
- A self-starter
- Good understanding of audience data and SEO
- A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
