Nursery Practitioner

Job Purpose
To provide high-quality, inclusive care and learning opportunities for all children in accordance with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the Ofsted Education Inspection Framework (November 2025). The postholder will contribute to curriculum planning, maintain a safe and stimulating environment, and support the effective daily running of the nursery.
Positions are available at both Lambkins Nursery and Lilyhowe Nursery.
Key Responsibilities
Children’s Learning and Development
- Plan, deliver, and evaluate engaging learning experiences in line with EYFS principles and the nurseries’ Curiosity Approach ethos.
- Act as a Key Person, supporting each child’s individual development and maintaining accurate learning records.
- Promote inclusion and provide appropriate support for children with additional needs.
Health, Safety, and Welfare
- Ensure a clean, safe, and nurturing environment in accordance with all Health and Safety and safeguarding policies.
- Follow hygiene routines, including nappy changing, cleaning duties, and meal supervision.
- Promote children’s wellbeing and respond to their individual needs with care and sensitivity.
Communication and Teamwork
- Build positive, professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues.
- Communicate effectively with parents and staff, ensuring key information is shared with the Nursery Manager.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
Professional Practice and Development
- Stay up to date with EYFS guidance and the latest Ofsted inspection requirements (November 2025).
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and staff meetings to support continuous professional development.
- Mentor and support apprentices or colleagues where required.
- Contribute to a reflective and forward-thinking team culture.
Operational Duties
- Provide staff cover within the nursery or during off-site activities such as Forest School sessions.
- Carry out any reasonable additional duties as directed by the Nursery Manager.
Person Specification
- Qualifications: Minimum Level 2 or 3 in Early Years Education and Childcare (or equivalent).
- Knowledge: Sound understanding of EYFS and Ofsted’s 2025 inspection framework.
- The ability to obtain a clear DBS and further in-depth recruitment checks.
- Skills: Excellent communication, observation, and planning skills.
- Attributes: Reliable, flexible, enthusiastic, and committed to supporting every child’s learning and wellbeing.
Incentive
Eligible Early Years Practitioners may receive a £1,000 government incentive payment as part of the national recruitment and retention scheme for qualified early years staff.
**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Pay: From £25,312.56 per year
Expected hours: No less than 28.5 per week
