Manchester, United Kingdom Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust Full time

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Join Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) as an Anaesthetic Consultant & you won’t look back. It’s not just an outstanding post in which to accelerate your clinical, leadership, research & audit skills, it’s your chance to join our friendly anaesthesia team working across MFT & be at the heart of the enormous transformation of North Manchester General Hospital (NMGH), the primary base for this role.

At NMGH, we’re creating a state-of-the-art health campus. Based on a radical re-design & investment, with 70% of the estate being rebuilt, the hospital will sit at the heart of a site comprising a series of hubs. These will include wellbeing, healthy neighbourhood, residential community, mental health, sustainable transport & more. Your Consultancy role will be clinically vital but you’ll be a high-profile expert in an organisation with a more far-reaching impact - boosting the life expectancy of local people & acting as a catalyst programme for the city’s future prosperity.

In medical terms, you’ll be part of the Elective Recovery Programme working across different specialties & across different MFT sites in order to develop sub-specialisation.

You could be an experienced Anaesthetic Consultant already or completing your deanery training or completing your CESR. Whatever your current status, the impact you make here will be felt immediately & carry a legacy that will echo into the future.

As part of a 210-strong cohort of Anaesthetic Consultants Trust-wide, you’ll be working in an exceptional, integrated health and social care system, delivering safe, high-quality care to the public. Here are the key clinical details of the role:

- You’ll deliver expertise in complex airway and obstetric anaesthesia
- You’ll work flexible and fixed sessions, including on-call, typically across a 10 PA job plan to enable you to gain broad exposure to the services we provide, while becoming part of the Anaesthesia Consultant body
- You’ll have 0.5 PAs to be involved in transformation projects
- You’ll be on-call on a 1:9 basis, alternating between first and second on-call roles
- There are excellent opportunities for teaching. The unit is approved for training by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine for CM trainees and by the Royal College of Anaesthetists for anaesthetic trainees undertaking intensive care modules.

**You will bring**:

- MBChB or equivalent
- A postgraduate qualification or equivalent - e.g. FRCA
- Higher training in Anaesthesia and be on the specialist register (or within six months of obtaining CCT)
- Adult Life Support and Advanced Paediatric Life Support certification
- Experience of completing the audit cycle.

COVID-19 vaccination remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients from the virus when working in our healthcare settings. Whilst COVID-19 vaccination is not currently a condition of employment, we do encourage our staff to get vaccinated. If you are unvaccinated, there is helpful advice and information available by searching on the ‘NHS England’ website where you can also find out more about how to access the vaccination.
