Fresh Produce Team Leader

Fresh, seasonal, local and organic fruit & veg is at the heart of our Staverton shop and we are seeking someone who cares as much about it as we do. Our current, long-serving Fresh Produce team leader is planning a well-deserved retirement and we want to appoint a successor for this important role, who will work alongside and learn from him over an extended period to transfer knowledge and build experience. We have 2 positions in the same role, 1 full time (40 hours a week) and 1 part time (16-24 hours a week).

Ben’s Farm Shop Ltd is a thriving family-owned local food business. We go back over 35 years to when Ben started Riverford Farm Shops, selling sausages and charcuterie from the garage at Riverford Farm, where he was born. The business has grown into a thriving group of four local shops, two with cafes, and a Wine & Tapas Bar. We have our own production kitchen and are famous for many of the products Ben has developed over the years. He continues to be relentlessly innovative.

**What you’ll be doing**

Training alongside our existing Fresh Produce team leader, you will learn to be responsible for the fresh produce section, meaning all our fresh fruit and veg. This is one of the mainstays of our shops and we pride ourselves on providing a fresh and abundant display of seasonal and local produce.

We are seeking someone who can take full responsibility for the fruit & veg section, and continue to be part of building on fresh produce sales, with the relevant skills, knowledge and experience.

**Responsibilities**

You’ll develop close working relationships with our suppliers, sourcing the best fresh and local fruit and veg for the shop. You will work closely with colleagues at our other shops as Staverton shop buys some produce for supply to all shops.

You will be responsible for setting out the daily displays, pricing of produce across the business, accurate labelling, hygiene of the fridges and cleanliness of the storage and display areas, stock-rotation and record-keeping. You will replenish the section throughout the day as required and manage the display to ensure it always looks as attractive as possible, being vigilant for items that need to be removed or price reduced.

As we are a small team additional tasks will include playing your part in the shop’s retail team, including serving customers at the till. Customer service is an important aspect of this role, interacting directly with customers, answering questions and helping with purchases.

**Skills & experience**

Experience of running a retail fresh produce section, including stock management and ordering Energetic, self-motivated, outgoing and reliable

A good communicator, with excellent customer service skills

Passion for fresh local produce and good food

Commercially aware and with a good eye for detail

Knowledge and practical experience of working with food safety standards

Basic level IT skills, training on the relevant system will be provided

**Job Type / Category**

You will generally work 40 hours over 5 days per week although shifts may vary, and will involve weekend and bank holiday working, so we do need someone who can work flexibly.
