Must be 18 years or above to apply Location Volunteers can request to be on inpatient wards in the Cumberland Infirmary, West Cumberland Hospital and Community Hospitals in North & West Cumbria. **This might be the role for you if**: - You are comfortable working in a busy ward environment - You have the ability to communicate with all groups of people - You are helpful, have patience and have an accommodating manner - You are able to work independently and as part of a team - You can provide one morning or afternoon per week What support and training will be provided? - Volunteer induction and specific training for the role - Regular and ongoing support from a named member of staff - Ongoing training as the role requires - Out of pocket travel expenses reimbursed in accordance with North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust Volunteering Policy Health and Safety Your safety is our priority - you will not be volunteering with any COVID positive patients. The majority of tasks can be undertaken while social distancing and you will receive full PPE, guidance and support in line with trust policies and national guidance. Do you want to make a difference to the lives of patients and their relatives during the pandemic? Do you want to ease pressure off ward staff in a practical way? Join an exciting project called Keeping Patients Connected which was implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and the Trust has just received further funding from NHS England to expand the volunteer role. Wards across the county have received iPads and mobile phones and volunteers have been supporting families to communicate via video calls and direct phone conversations. However, wards are now beginning to establish an appointment based visiting process and we are looking for volunteers to support with this transition. This is where we need you. Can you give a few hours each week to support ward staff in a busy ward environment? Can you support patients and relatives during this uncertain time? You will be part of a team of volunteers who will form part of a wider holistic support approach for patients on wards. A Standard DBS check will be required for this volunteering post. The DBS check is free of charge for volunteers.
