At Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust we provide a wide range of mental health, learning disabilities, substance misuse, forensic and specialist services across Sheffield.
Some of our specialist services, such as our autism, eating disorders and gender identity clinics support people across South Yorkshire and nationally. Every year we support around 55,000 people with mental, physical, and social care needs.
As a Foundation Trust we provide specialist healthcare & support for adults with learning disabilities and their families. To achieve the best outcomes for people we work closely alongside professionals in primary, secondary & acute care, social services, and the independent sector. Working closely with our service users & their carers is at the heart of everything we do. We are proud to work in partnership with our local community & have strong ties with Sheffield City Council, voluntary,
charity & community organisations & other NHS organisations.
We are a designated teaching trust and have strong ties with the University of Sheffield, Sheffield Hallam University and other education organisations working in the region. As a teaching trust we are also committed to research and have an active network of clinicians who have a fantastic track record in research. G1 ward is predominantly an organic inpatient older adult ward for the assessment and management of challenging behaviour in dementia.
This is an important post as part of the multidisciplinary team within the Older Adults Home Treatment Team service.
You must have a CCT/CCST in Psychiatry (Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent). Specialty Registrars who are within 6 months of attainment of CCT at the time of interview are eligible to apply. You will need to to be both S12 approved and an Approved Clinician to fulfill contractual duties. If you are not approved at the time of the interview, s/he must be fully eligible for approval.
All consultants are expected to take part in the on-call rota, which due to being low frequency and supported by a full trainee and a registrar rota is remunerated at 1%. Opportunities do exist for consultants to “act down” on to the registrar rota to cover gaps and absences, which is well remunerated.

Following the Covid-19 pandemic, an increasing number of older adults with functional mental health diagnoses are, where appropriate, admitted to G1 ward. The ward has 16 beds and is split into separate male and female sides; there is some flexibility in the split of beds between the sides.
G1 ward has on average 56 admissions a year. Patients are referred for admission by secondary mental health service, which includes the older adult liaison team, community mental health team (CMHT) and older adult home treatment team (HTT).
