**Senior Anaesthetic ODP**

One Hatfield Hospital has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) to join our friendly and dynamic team.

Reporting to the Theatre Manager:

- You will provide high standards of skilled care and support during each phase of a patients perioperative care - anaesthetic, surgery and recovery.
- Work in the surgery team and manage the preparation of the operating theatres.
- You'll also be the the link between the surgical team and other parts of the operating theatre and hospital.

**Hours**: 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday with some Saturday shifts as required.

**Salary**: Dependent on skillset and experience

**Senior Anaesthetic ODP**

Reporting to the Theatre Manager or Speciality Lead, you will be ensuring high standards of effective care are delivered to all patients within the Theatre suite, whilst maintaining communication within the team.

**Responsibilities**:

- Prepare an operating theatre/anaesthetic room for surgery in relation to instrumentation, equipment and supplies required for specific operative procedures, ensuring waste is kept to a minimum. In the case of anaesthetics ensure all necessary and emergency equipment is available and in working order.
- Ensure the Patient Record is completed in a timely and accurate way.
- Act as preceptor for junior nurses and HCAs, where appropriate and participate in teaching within your sphere of knowledge and skill
- Perform scrub, circulating and / or anaesthetic duties
- Organise own time and be responsible for appropriate delegation of staff and duties.
- Maintain effective channels of communication at all times.
- Comply with One Healthcare policies/procedures and in particular, issues relating to Health and Safety, COSSH, Incidents Reporting and the Data Protection Act.
- Report all accidents and untoward incidents to senior staff and complete electronic reporting system.
- Act as specialist/link person having undergone the relevant training sessions in your area of expertise.
- Deliver patient care in accordance with recognised standards of research based clinical practise.
- By precept and example, to ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.
- Work within a flexible working roster, designed to achieve the most effective use of staff for the patients requirements.
- Ensure that all elements contained within the AODP Code of Professional Conduct are adhered to, and ensure that you maintain registration requirements.
- To ensure that Clinical Governance and risk management are embedded within daily practice.
- Provide and receive patient information, ensuring that all patient information is provided, received and recorded in accordance with the Data Protection Act and ONE Healthcare Policies.
- Carry out any other duty that reasonably falls within the general nature and level of responsibility of the post.

**Qualifications**
- Registered Operating Department Practitioner
- HCPC Registration

**Experience**
- Previous experience as an ODP within a Theatre Environment
- Previous experience of managing clinical audits

**Skills**
- High standard of clinical practice
- Competent across a range of clinical skills supported by professional competence and knowledge
- Able to use evidence based practice to provide high standards of care.
- Knowledge of appropriate standards and external bodies, such as the Care Quality Commission
- Demonstrable knowledge and skills in the practitioners area of clinical practice
- Sound written, numerical and verbal communication skills
- Sound computer skills using MS Office Suite and web based reporting systems
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the business
- Excellent Customer Service skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required

**Desirables**
- Previous experience working in the private healthcare sector
- Substantial perioperative experience.
- Enthusiasm for cross functional working such as ambulatory care.
- Show some awareness of theatre specialty.
