**Building a sustainable tomorrow**
BAM UK & Ireland is recruiting a Head of Social Sustainability. In this role, you will report to the Social Sustainability Director and become a key member of the UK & Ireland (UK&I) Social Sustainability Senior Leadership team (SLT), serving as one of three Business Partners. Your primary responsibility will be to support the UK&I Division in its quest to become the most socially conscious contractor and achieve a minimum of 35% social value against revenue by 2026.
This position offers flexibility, allowing you to be based from any of our UK&I office locations, with hybrid flexible working actively encouraged and supported. You will assume a crucial role in leading BAM's Social Sustainability teams in Scotland, Ireland, and Central (Midlands).
As a strategic partner with the operational business, you will lead a team of Social Sustainability managers and coordinators located in the respective regions. Your role involves offering specialised social sustainability knowledge, providing direction and leadership, and concentrating on fulfilling BAM’s social sustainability commitments. As part of the SLT your role will help to influence UK&I strategic development, performance processes and systems, as well as guide a progressive approach to work winning, research and thought leadership.
**Your mission**
- Drive social sustainability performance across a billion-pound portfolio.
- Lead the successful delivery of the 'social' component of BAM's sustainability strategy, crafting and implementing a roadmap to achieve 35% social value against revenue by 2026.
- Act as a primary point of contact for UK&I business segments seeking specialised social sustainability knowledge and support.
- Lead and oversee a team of social sustainability specialists, ensuring the effective delivery of contractual commitments, and delivery of strategically aligned social sustainability projects and programmes.
- Manage the integration of social sustainability considerations into tenders, contributing innovative ideas and approaches to strategically support work winning including planning and assignment of social sustainability resources.
- Enhance efficiency across the UK&I social sustainability team by standardising processes and systems, and continually developing shared resources.
- Foster trusting relationships, collaborating with cross-functional teams (Diversity and Inclusion, Learning and Development, Environmental Sustainability, Early Careers/Talent/HR, Procurement, and Operations/ Commercial) to ensure alignment, identify new opportunities, and reduce duplication of effort.
- Spearhead the identification and development of UK&I-wide programmes and partnerships aligned with BAM's key themes of Social Inclusion, Social Mobility, and the Foundational Economy.
- Collaborate with BAM's Procurement and Commercial teams to embed social sustainability principles and maximise social value opportunities in our supply chain.
- Coordinate and manage staff resource allocation in alignment with business needs.
- Drive cultural change and influence stakeholders across the business.
- Guide, advise, and influence key clients, government entities, and industry stakeholders, and contribute to thought leadership.
- Coordinate industry insights, development, policy, and legislation to set the direction, ensuring BAM consistently aligns with or stays ahead of industry trends.
- Ensure a high level of understanding of social sustainability by developing and informing training
materials to enhance the knowledge of the Social Sustainability team and wider workforce.
- Promote best practices and position BAM as a leader and influencer in social sustainability.
- Manage and coordinate collaboration with external partners including; Social Value Portal, The Social Partnership Portal, Social Value UK, Sustainable FM Index, UK Green Building Council, and the Supply Chain Sustainability School.
- Oversee the measurement and reporting of the social value of framework and projects to enhance compliance and assurance.
- Generate regular reports and presentations for Divisional and Segment management teams.
- Demonstrate and guide best practice in stakeholder management and community engagement.
- Work collaboratively with our marketing and communication teams to programme internal and external communication of social sustainability projects, programmes and campaigns.
**Who are we looking for?**
- Substantial experience in managing people and teams within a matrix management organisation.
- Significant experience in social sustainability, social value, social impact, and/or community development roles in the private or public sector.
- Ability to create, implement and execute strategy across multiple business segments, fostering collaboration among colleagues.
