Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist

**The role comprises two aspects**: a Team Lead and a Training Lead. Applications can be for either or both roles.

The Team Lead will be responsible for providing line management and leadership for one of the school age “patches” within the Children’s SaLT Service. They will work as a member of the School Age Team to provide assessment, diagnosis and treatment and liaise with health, education and social services, working in partnership with primary carers and external agencies to ensure the delivery of a high-quality service.

The Training Lead will create and manage a comprehensive training offer, for both internal staff, and the wider workforce, supporting the implementation of the balanced system methodology. The role may involved delivering training and well as liaison with our partners to ensure that we are meeting need and working efficiently across the system.

To take day-to-day responsibility for the leadership, delivery and operational management of a designated team of SaLTs and support staff

To be responsible for developing and monitoring the standard of service provision across your team through the implementation of clinical governance requirements i.e. protocols and guidelines, clinical audit and risk management policies.

To contribute to business plans for the managed areas.

To deputise for more senior staff when appropriate.

To facilitate in-service training, research and audit activities within the designated team.

To teach, develop and educate team members to ensure service needs are met.

To be responsible for the provision of highly specialised assessment, treatment and management of patients referred to your team.

To work as an autonomous practitioner using advanced and highly specialised skills and knowledge, determine clinical diagnoses and treatment indicated for a complex caseload and maintain records.

To take responsibility for specific areas of expertise, as agreed with the Children's Therapy Services Lead, taking the lead on these within the department.

To create and manage a comprehensive training offer for internal Speech and language therapists, as well as for our external partners, including school staff, local authority staff and parents.

This role is for 30 hours in total, term time only. We may consider splitting the role into two separate roles (Team Lead and Training Lead) depending on the applicants. Please see the attached job description and specification for full information.
