**Detailed job description and main responsibilities**:

- This post would be particularly suitable for a trainee who intends to pursue an academic oncology career with an interest in translational research and drug development. However the post also will provide important training in generic and transferable skills for non-academic trainee.

**Knowledge & Qualifications**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Medical degree
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
- GMC registration and entry on the appropriate GMC Specialist Register
- Completed core medial training or equivalent

**Experience**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Experience of teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
- Clinical audit experience

**Desirable criteria**:

- Undergoing or completed higher specialist training in Oncology
- Experience in early phase clinical Trials
- Experience in oncology
- Experience of laboratory research

**Skills & Abilities**:
**Essential criteria**:

- Ability and commitment to teach in a clinical setting
- Ability to organise and prioritise workload, to delegate responsibility as appropriate and to supervise staff
- Good inter-personal skills with an ability to work co-operatively in a multidisciplinary setting
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment & on own initiative
- Excellent communication skills/verbal and written. Good command of written and spoken English
- Understanding of research methodology

**Knowledge**:
**Desirable criteria**:

- Knowledge of the Clinical Governance framework of the NHS (including Research governance) and understanding of current changes in the organisation and management structures of the NHS. Ability to act within these parameters.
