**Job Purpose**:
To perform trading and portfolio analysis to meet the service needs of the customer and financial and business objectives of National Grid.

**Key Accountabilities**:

- Become authorised to trade in applicable markets and exchanges and to develop applicable short term positions.
- Develop skills to be able to forecast expected energy and margin imbalance position generally from week ahead to within day timescales.
- Provide input to the development and implementation of hedging, procurement, and forward strategies to deliver optimised system position and minimise overall costs of imbalance.
- Plan and contract, ensuring the contracts are executed and managed consistently with National Grid’s and state regulators’ goals.
- Monitor and/or assess all energy planning and procurement activities to ensure compliance with legislation, governance, and corporate and industry standards for risk management.
- Collate and analyse all relevant information and data to support the department’s planning and volatility management process and to justify and initiate energy balancing trades.
- Execute energy service scheduling, purchasing and selling instructions and requests, plan and organise resources, and make appropriate arrangements.

**Supervisory/Interpersonal
- Experience Required**:

- Liaise with applicable parties to understand short term limitations and develop traded solutions to optimise risk position.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders to fully explain and support the implementation of National Grid policies and processes.
- Support applicable regulatory filings.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's in engineering, finance, mathematics, business administration, economics, computer science, or other analytical discipline
- Relevant experience, preferably in the utility industry or wholesale markets
