We're recruiting for as and when workers within our Family Services team at HMPPS Berwyn. Working as a member of the team, to work across all areas of the service, primarily in the visitor centre, but also across the visits hall and play area to provide a safe and welcoming environment, and provide advice, support and information to friends and families visiting the prison, to develop and maintain positive relationships between prisoners and their families.

To provide age-appropriate play activities within the prison visit hall to ensure that children feel comfortable, safe, and secure while visiting their parent in prison and to promote opportunities for children to engage with their father/grandparent or extended family member who is in prison in an appropriate way during a visit and family days.

The post will involve evening and weekend work.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**Visitors Centre/Visits Hall**
- To offer a friendly and welcoming environment within the Visitors Centre, where people visiting the prison, can spend time before and after their visit.
- To offer a range of age-appropriate play activities in the visit's hall.
- To encourage families to access support for their needs by interacting with visitors, offering information and advice as appropriate on a confidential basis.
- To identify first time visitors and ensure they are provided with enhanced support and reassurance.
- To support families accessing information about the prison and assisted prison visits scheme and signposting to other agencies and that information is available in languages other than English.
- To liaise with prison staff, including visits and security staff to ensure close co-operation in the smooth and efficient reception of visitors at the prison.
- To ensure the play equipment is safe, clean, and able to fulfil its requirements.
- Recording all contacts and outcomes in accordance with the Barnardos systems and systems within the establishment
- To coordinate plan and delivery the running of family days as requited to include the preparation and assisting in the selection process.
- To support the team with developing and delivering activities for strengthening family relationships such as family days, homework clubs, play activities, peer support groups etc.

**Additional Information**:

- To meet and greet visitors, share information, engage with prisoners, and prison staff, engage in community support, and ensure a safe, family-friendly visit experience for all
- To focus on activities, toys, games and providing a play environment for children and young people during visiting hours and family days.
- To ensure the play areas and equipment is clean and fit for purpose
- To provide interactive activities within the visit's hall, with a wide range of activities including crafts, arts, and soft play. Using creative and imaginative resources
- To support children and parents to play together.
