Head Catering Porter

Our client is a prestigious independent school near Cobham, Surrey. They currently have a new role for a Head Porter who is a reliable and conscientious individual to lead their team of kitchen porters.
The Catering Head Porter will support the Catering Department in managing the kitchen porter team, working with them and ensuring that all porter responsibilities, as listed below, are carried out to a high standard.
Main Responsibilities:
Duties as Catering Head Porter
- To manage the team of porters ensuring that all duties are carried out to a high standard.
- To prepare a weekly cleaning rota and ensure the duties are completed as required.
- To ensure kitchen equipment cleaning is maintained and faulty equipment reported in a timely manner.
Frequent Duties Include:
The Catering Head Porter will work with the Porter team:

- To receive deliveries and to store them in the correct areas.
- To clear dirty plates and pots and other used items, and to wash up appropriately.
- To fetch and carry items as instructed by the chefs and management. This will include lifting and disposing of heavy food waste.
- To clean areas of the Dining Hall as instructed.
- To ensure all School and statutory regulations pertaining to health and safety, hygiene and fire are adhered to at all times.
- To ensure a standard of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene to comply with School and statutory regulations. Training will be provided which covers areas of personal and general cleanliness and hygiene.
- To ensure that all School and client contacts are handled in a thorough and responsible manner.
- To wear the correct standard of dress or uniform at all times, to include mask, gloves and protective eyewear where necessary. HACCP & COSHH training will be provided and you must comply with all regulations.
- To maintain a high level of cleanliness and tidiness within the kitchen as well as the front and back of house areas at all times as reasonably practicable. You should ensure that the Porter team complete all tasks as per the daily schedule.
- To ensure that all products are properly packaged, labelled and put in the correct storage areas, fridges or freezers on a rotation basis.
- To follow the School's health and safety procedures at all times.
- To monitor and control supplies of cleaning materials, and report shortages to management so they can be reordered.
- To carry out deep cleaning, delegating as necessary, when directed by the Line Manager.
Experience & Skills
Previous experience in a similar role would be an advantage but not essential as training is provided. An awareness of the importance of health and safety in the workplace is essential.

Hours
Standard hours of work are on a shift rota Monday to Saturday working 41 weeks per annum of which: 44 hours per week, 36 weeks per annum (term time) and 40 hours per week, 5 weeks per annum.
Shift patterns are worked between the hours of 6.30am and 8.00pm (with 45 minutes unpaid break).
The salary is inclusive of holiday entitlement and annual leave must be taken in the school holidays. Holiday entitlement is 28 days including Bank Holidays (FTE) and 3 days at Christmas when the School is closed.
