The Acute Medical Unit is linked to the Emergency Department and General Practice (GP) services and is based at the RD&E main hospital site. Our admin team is made up of an Admin Services Manager, Admin Line Manager, and a Team Leader and there are 18 members of our friendly dedicated admin staff.

In addition, we have a team of Ward Consultants and Doctors as well as Ward Matrons and Nursing staff. The Acute Medical Unit deals with approximately 21,000 admissions per year and is an exciting and stimulating place to work. You will deal with referrals from the Emergency Department and also from GPs, admitting patients onto the ward and dealing with their subsequent pathway through the hospital. You must have excellent communication skills with a pleasant telephone manner.

It is essential that you have the ability to interact with patients calmly, sensitively and efficiently both on the telephone and in person. You will need to be computer literate and have experience of working with the general public. You must be able to use your own initiative, prioritising your workload to meet the changing needs of the department, as the Acute Medical Unit is a high pressure fast paced environment.
