We are seeking to appoint an assistant for the University of Manchester Library’s digital Special Collections, to support the University’s flagship digital collections viewer Manchester Digital Collections (MDC) and our ongoing mission to share these vast collections and research outputs with the world.

The Library’s extensive digital Special Collections combine ultra-high-quality images with rich metadata, informed by research-based expert interpretation. We have developed MDC with university partners as a sector-leading platform to provide open access to these resources. This Digital Collections Assistant role will support the day-to-day management and development of our digital Special Collections, assisting a cross-Directorate team including curators, photographers, developers, cataloguers and project managers, in the successful and timely release of new digital content on the MDC platform. The post requires excellent communication, time management and organisational skills, including proven ability to interrogate and interpret complex information and work to tight deadlines as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be committed to delivering digital Special Collections which support research, learning and public engagement.

The Library's Special Collections are among the richest holdings of rare books, manuscripts, archives, maps and visual collections in the world and are an outstanding resource. Through the John Rylands Research Institute, we deliver an extensive programme of research on the collections, in collaboration with academic colleagues at the University.

The University of Manchester Library is one of only five National Research Libraries and the third largest academic library in the UK.
