**Mechanical Craftsperson**
**Base Location**: Orkney, Kirkwall
**Salary**: £28,831 - £35,194 depending on skills and experience
**Working Pattern**: Permanent | Full time, 37 hours
**About the Role**
To carry out routine maintenance and repair of diesel engines and associated plant at Kirkwall Power Station (KPS). To assist with the general daily tasks in the station. To operate the station when necessary.
Key Accountabilities
- to carry out mechanical maintenance, diagnosis and repair of engines and associated plant at KPS
- to carry out fabrication
- to assist other craftsmen when necessary
- to be nominated supervisor authorised to allow you to issue and receive work orders and isolate plant
- to complete risk assessments
**What do I need?**
Business Knowledge
- an understanding of the company values (SSE SET)
- knowledge of all plant operating procedures
- _Essential Functional / Technical Skills
- should have completed an acknowledged mechanical apprenticeship
- must have a good knowledge of diesel engines and associated auxiliary plant
- must be able to carry out fault diagnosis and to recognise plant and system issues
- ability to work within the safety rules
