**Contract**: Permanent Full-Time 37.5 hours per week
As the Trust’s ‘competent person’ on all matters relating to Fire Safety, the post holder will ensure that that the Trust complies with Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (RRO) legislation and will work closely with all relevant parties within the Trust’s hospital and community premises externally to ensure the provision of a fire safe environment for patients/staff/visitors and to facilitate sustained care and well-being.
By the provision of competent advice, assist the Trust Board, Director of Environment and the Trust in providing and maintaining levels of fire precaution within Trust premises in line with NHS Health Technical Memorandum Firecode suite of documents requirements, and maintaining good relationships with the London Fire Brigade.
The post holder will be part of a high-skilled, professional compliance safety team that forms an integral part of the Trust’s Environment Division. Developing and maintaining an open and transparent Fire Safety Management System, the post holder will be able to provide assurance through the Fire Safety Manager to the Director of Environment and the wider Trust board on matters relating to Fire Safety.
The post holder will be responsible for the provision and content of fire training and for ensuring fire risk assessments are in place that meet the statutory requirements of the RRO.
1. The post holder will support in line with HTM05:01 fire safety management structure - Fire Safety Advisor
2. To review and improve the Trust’s fire policies and contribute to the development, maintenance and implementation of robust and effective fire safety protocols, procedures and action plans.
3. To provide expert fire safety advice to the Trust’s Capital Planning / Estates Management teams.
4. The post holder will provide and receive complex information regarding fire safety legislation, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, NHS HTM’s and other associated fire guidance for the benefit of the Trust.
5. The post holder will undertake fire risk assessments across all Trust sites; disseminate ‘significant findings’ produce and monitor an effective action plan as necessary in line with current legislation and guidance.
6. The post holder will support the Fire Safety Manager in developing the implementation of service changes and formulation of governance and assurance procedures, such as Trust committees and reports, to ensure Trust’s compliance with statutory and mandatory requirements.
7. The post holder will know the limits of their capabilities and when necessary, seek specialist advice from the Trust Authorising Engineer (Fire).
Medical services have been delivered on the Whittington Hospital site for over 500 years. On 1st April 2011, Whittington Health was launched as a new Integrated Care Organisation (ICO) comprising The Whittington Hospital NHS Trust, NHS Islington and NHS Haringey. The Whittington and the community health services in Islington and Haringey are award winning organisations, delivering acute and community based health services to a population of 443,000 people.
The organisation is the biggest employer in the area, with over 4,500 staff; delivering healthcare not only on the acute hospital site which has 420 beds, but also from a variety of other community based health centres and through visits to patients homes across the boroughs to address the health needs of the local population. Whittington Health also works with other health, social care and voluntary sector partners to support patients and service users from their initial appointment whether it be with a community health team or at the hospital, all the way through to treatment and tailored after care.

5. Liaise with planning teams, local building control and fire authorities in the specification of fire precautions in new and existing premises.
