DAS UK Group is looking to bring on board a driven and proficient Chief Actuary to direct the Actuarial Department, which is responsible for analysis and quantification of financial risks and liabilities. Reporting directly to the CFO, this role is instrumental in advising DAS UK Group’s management team in important decisions. Key responsibility areas include reserving, capital modelling, reinsurance and support for financial driver analysis, corporate planning and pricing.
As Chief Actuary, the role has a reporting line to the Audit Committee and is responsible for complying with UK regulations in relation to the Actuarial Function, including oversight of the calculation of technical provisions, appropriateness of underwriting and pricing policies, and adequacy of reinsurance arrangements, as well as involvement in assessment of wider business risks.
This is an important and influential role within DAS and is a great opportunity to become a member of the senior Finance management team at DAS UK Group, as well as the wider leadership team at a leading specialist insurance company. In addition, this role will involve:

- Leading the Actuarial Department, guiding the technical and professional development of the team, co-ordinating the allocation of resources and managing expenditure;
- Devising and implementing a strategy to control risks including, creating, running and developing a set of actuarial processes and models that interact with those in the wider business;
- Developing constructive working relationships with stakeholders from Finance, Risk, Underwriting, Pricing, Claims and senior management at levels ranging from technical to strategic;
- Predicting the cost of insurance risk using actuarial techniques, devising and implementing a framework that brings together the results of claims monitoring, reserving in accordance to UK GAAP and IFRS 17, capital and reinsurance models;
- Calculating technical provisions, solvency capital requirement and related impacts on the Solvency II economic balance sheet, providing input to the Own Risk & Solvency Assessment process;
- Conducting investigations and other actions of the regulatory Actuarial Function as required under UK regulations and producing the actuarial function report;
- Liaising with internal, group and external auditors, implementing recommended actions as required;
- Carrying out other actuarial investigations that may be required from time to time under UK regulation and legislation, and by Group;
- Monitoring developments in regulation, Group guidance and actuarial standards; co-ordinating impact analysis and adoption; monitoring adherence;
- Acting as owner of relevant policies, representing the responsible executive, including Claims Reserving, Actuarial Function and Reinsurance Risk;
- Acting as member of board and management committees including Executive Management Risk, Pricing and Reinsurance, Investment and Reserving;
- Owning and monitoring adherence to the Actuarial Departmental quality procedures; and
- Deputising for the CFO or other Finance leaders as required.
