Lewisham, United Kingdom Age UK Lewisham and Southwark Full time

Community Connections Lewisham, a project run by Age UK Lewisham and Southwark, are committed to reducing social isolation in Lewisham. We are looking to fill travel companion roles in our community transport project.

Travel companions support people who are still physically able to use public transport but have issues with confidence, anxiety or following a route. Our travel companions allow people to maintain as much independence as they can while travelling.

We support adults in Lewisham who are unable to use public transport, either through physical or mental impairment. Our service gives a vital lifeline to our users who otherwise would not be able to go to social groups, GP appointments or visit family among many other activities important in warding off mental ill health and isolation.

These individuals are referred to us through Adult Social Care, GPs, Hospitals and local community services and social groups. Volunteering with Community Connections Lewisham will give you access to our induction, training, other voluntary roles, and can give great experience of the charity and health and social care sector in the borough.

**Responsibilities**:

- Accompany our service users from their homes to their destination, mostly within borough but on occasion outside of Lewisham
- Be able to commit to at least 1 trip a week
- Attend full induction and training in the role
- Update our systems with details of interactions with service users
- Represent Community Connections Transport in the community, and be able to identify others who would be interested in volunteering
- Understand the importance, and process for reporting any concerns or safeguarding to the relevant people/organisations
- Willing to have enhanced DBS check for working with vulnerable adults

**Job Types**: Part-time, Volunteer
Part-time hours: 4 per week
