Procurement Assistant
About us SLS have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Assistant to join our innovative & fast paced business based in Nottingham.
SLS are the UK’s largest independent supplier of laboratory equipment, chemicals & consumables. Because of our independence, we have a unique approach to sourcing & supplying the highest quality, best value products & brands.
Job Summary
As a Procurement Assistant, this role forms part of the organisation’s centralised Procurement Team, which is fundamental to the continued development of the business. The role is to manage the expedition of purchase orders, the investigation and resolution of delivery discrepancies and provide support to the procurement function.
Key Responsibilities The Procurement Assistant will be responsible for:
- Expedite Purchase Orders with Suppliers.
- Ensure Purchase Order Acknowledgements Match Purchase Orders issued
- and update internal ERP system and CRM software tool accordingly.
- Liaise with internal customers to provide status updates on orders
- via internal ERP system, CRM software tool and telephone.
- Investigation and resolution of delivery discrepancies from Suppliers. Arrangement of collections from Suppliers via internal fleet of vehicles.
- Promoting of the department to other internal departments with a can-do attitude.
- Provide basic support duties to the Procurement Department.
- Providing cover for other members of the team when required.
- Any other duties commensurate with the role.
- Adopt a pragmatic approach to Continuous Improvement by learning from our past experiences with a view to making things better for future projects.
- Incorporate these learnings into appropriate systems and processes and drive a continuous improvement ethos across our internal and external stakeholders.
- Take up any other related projects and lead as requested by the Procurement Manager.
Who we are looking for The successful Procurement Assistant will have:
- Maths and English to GCSE or equivalent
- Attention to detail is essential in this role
- Organised and methodical with ability to prioritise workloads
- Strong communication skills both verbally and written
- Well-developed interpersonal skills, able to build positive relationships with colleagues, key stakeholders and suppliers
- experience of using CRM software tool beneficial
- Ability to work on your own initiative and in a team environment
- A basic understanding of Procurement / Purchasing would be advantageous
