**Summary**:
We are seeking to appoint a self-motivated and innovative individual to the role of Consultant in Health Protection for UKHSA in North East England.
The post is a permanent appointment and is suitable for both Medical Consultants and Non-Medical Consultants Agenda for Change Band 8d.
This is a senior role within the health protection team and provides leadership, management and oversight of the health protection function, including the response to incidents and outbreaks and responsibility for the day-to-day operational delivery.
The post holder will play a key role in developing, shaping and assuring the health protection function, which may include managing individuals and teams, working closely with partners, and ensuring delivery of high-quality surveillance, response and support systems. The post holder will have responsibility for developing and maintaining close working relationships both internally and with partner organisations. In addition, they will contribute and lead on regional and national priorities, including contribution to wider public health initiatives consistent with the regional delivery model and integrated working.
**Job description**:
The Consultant in Health Protection is a key role within the Health Protection Team and will provide senior leadership, management, and oversight of the health protection function, including the response to incidents and outbreaks with responsibility for day-to-day operational delivery.
The postholder will be responsible for developing and maintaining close working relationships both internally and externally with a whole range of partner organisations.
Working closely with key partners to ensure delivery of high-quality surveillance, response and support systems.
The postholder will have the opportunity take on the lead for one or more disease/programme/topic areas e.g., environmental public health, act as deputy for the Deputy Regional Director on occasion at both National, Regional and Local level. They will also be expected to fulfil a whole range of corporate management responsibilities ensuring good financial stewardship and management of resources in particular ensuring compliance and adherence to good corporate and clinical governance.
The ability to lead individuals and teams, engage with staff at all levels.
**Responsibilities**:
As well as the agreed individual objectives, a job-plan will be developed which will outline the agreed programmed activities (PAs) that are necessary to fulfil the duties and responsibilities described in the Job Description.
The post holder will undergo a programme of on-going development to build on existing knowledge and develop skills to provide specialist health protection advice and meet competencies required to undertake the role.
Frequent travel within the geographical area and nationally may be required within the role.
