philanthropic organisation, to lead an action-research project exploring the possibilities of ‘civic
media’ technologies to support young people to participate in urban governance, act as ‘urban
citizens’, and shape equitable urban planning at the neighbourhood scale. The project “Co
- **Constructing ‘Neighbourhoods Fit for Diverse Young People’**: Civic Media Technologies for
Equitable Urban Governance” (YCiv) is partnership over 2.5 years between: Sheffield University
(UK); the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), (UK); and the Asian
Coalition for Housing Rights (ACHR), a regional network supporting community-led development,
**and its members**: NGOs Lumanti (Nepal) and Hunnarshala (India), and academic partners in
Tribhuvan University (Nepal) and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India).
This exciting opportunity calls for a person to work over the 2.5 years with advanced training and/or experience in issues relating to urban (in)equalities, youth participation, digital media, and urban governance, and/or with experience relevant in secondary cities in Nepal (Dharan) and India (Bhuj). You will have a good grounding in qualitative and participatory methods, and experience of collaboration with NGO partners, grassroots groups, youth networks, and policymakers.
Responsibilities will include carrying out fieldwork with partners in study sites in Nepal and India on the themes of youth participation, civic media, urban governance/neighbourhood planning, and citizenship; preparing reports and high-quality outputs arising from the research, including academic papers, policy/practice briefs, and digital resources in collaboration with the team; support the coordination and management of the wider research team in collaboration with the PI and a Project Officer.
