As part of an exciting new project, we are looking for experienced children and young people's counsellors/psychotherapists to join our expanding children and young people's therapy service.

If you are qualified to a **minimum **Level 4 Diploma in Counselling/Psychotherapy or Play Therapy; MA or MSc Art Therapy/Art Psychotherapy; are a Registered Member of the BACP, or equivalent: NCS (registrant); UKCP (full clinical membership); PTUK (full membership - certified); BAAT (full membership), and hold a Post Graduate qualification working therapeutically with Children and Young People, or have a minimum of 12 months, post qualification, experience counselling children and young people (age 5-18), we would love to hear from you.

Children and Young Person’s Counsellor

**Accountable to**: Head of Children and Young People’s Service

**Overall Purpose**: To support the Head of CYP Group Services in offering support and therapy to children and young people (CYP) pre and post bereavement.

To advise and support parents/carers.

To contribute to the development of the CYP Group counselling project

**Main duties and responsibilities**:
Undertake risk assessments of clients to manage risk and make appropriate referrals to specialist services where significant risk or safeguarding children and vulnerable adults are identified.

Provide therapeutic group, and one-one support, to children and young people appropriate to clients’ needs, age, gender and ethnicity.

Provide information, advice and support to local agencies and professionals working with children and families in the community.

Organise own caseload along with supporting the work of the Head of Children’s & Young People’s Therapy Services.

Support and offer guidance to volunteers assisting in the group programme.

Ensure ethical and legal standards are maintained, including client confidentiality.

Maintain competence and promote quality in the provision of psychological services.

Attend regular clinical supervision in accordance with professional body guidelines.

Take responsibility for personal professional competence and development by proactively assessing own education and development needs.

Maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to client group and mental health.

Act at all times in accordance with relevant legal, ethical and professional legislation and frameworks, CancerHelp’s policies and procedures.

Maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping (paper and electronic) in accordance with BACP, Governance and legislation requirements, and CancerHelp’s policies and procedures

Work as part of the team contributing to the efficient running of the CYP Service.

Attend team and other meetings as appropriate, contributing positively to discussions and debates, and participating in shared decision making.

Ensure effective communication including dissemination of information accurately and timely to support effective team working.

Liaise, where necessary, with other professionals who work with CYP to ensure the client accesses the most appropriate support to suit their individual needs.

Be able to undertake the mental, physical and emotional demands of the role, whilst at the same time taking care to safeguard own health and safety as well as fellow core team members, CYP and their families.

Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, this may include occasional weekend, and will involve early evening work.

Work in partnership with other relevant organisations.

**Salary**: £20.00-£25.00 per hour
