Overview:
The primary operational responsibility for this role is as a senior Lighting Director, working across ITV and Channel 4 News output. In addition to the core craft skills of lighting and vision engineering for a multicamera live studio environment, this also includes the simultaneous operation of remote camera heads and, in the case of the ITV virtual studio, the Ultimatte chromakey platform. As Team Leader for the Lighting and Camera teams within Studios, you will have line management responsibility for the Lighting Director and Camera Operator teams within Studios. You would support the Studios Operations Manager in ensuring the effective running of both teams, being a key point of communication between management and staff, leading performance reviews and any hiring processes and working with Tech Admin to maintain a well-run roster. This role also carries a responsibility as the technical operational lead for studio floor infrastructure such as the lighting rig and hoists, camera maintenance and power. As such you will work closely with members of the Technical Services team to ensure timely support and will be part of strategic investment planning on this front.

**Responsibilities**:

- Carry out annual staff appraisals, identifying training requirements and areas for career development
- Assign staff to tasks and delegating responsibilities where appropriate
- Maintain a pool of freelance lighting and camera operators, organising training/trailing as required
- Live operation and programming of lighting consoles and remote-control camera systems
- Technical line-up and vision control operation, and colour matching of studio cameras and in-vision sources
- Operation of Ultimatte chroma-keyers
- Establish lighting plots for ITN’s regular ITV and C4 studio news productions and special programs within the budget provided and with liaison with Studio Directors and scenic designers
- Overall and day-to-day maintenance of studio lighting equipment
- Organise annual studios LOLER inspections of Lighting hoists and camera crane equipment (e.g. Jimmy Jibs)
- Regularly review existing Risk Assessments and produce new Risk Assessments and develop safe working practices where necessary
- First-line technical support and technical operation for studio lighting and camera systems
- Understand the needs and requirements of presenters and guests
- Operate within ITN’s health and safety policy

Qualifications:

- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills with an ability to motivate and organise a team efficiently
- Ability to operate in a pressurised live studio environment
- Ability to produce lighting plots for single and multicamera situations
- Accurate assessment of picture quality and colour balance
- A good sense of composition of camera shots
- A wide knowledge of studio and broadcast engineering and of current and emerging lighting and camera technologies- We are continuing to review our future ways of working, and the return to our offices in the coming months will be gradual and considered, with the wellbeing of teams our primary focus._
