STFC's Accelerator Science and Technology Centre (ASTeC) mission is to build the 'Big Science' facilities of the future; we design, build and operate particle accelerators and make major contributions to many of the biggest projects in the world today. Basedat Daresbury Laboratory, we work with high-profile national and international partners that include the Cockcroft Institute.
As a member of the Femtosecond Lasers and Timing (FLT) group, you will help realise systems which generate and manipulate particle and photon beams with single-femtosecond precision.
About the role
We are looking for a synchronisation engineer to contribute to a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers.
You will contribute to the design of technical systems for innovative electron beam facilities, including CLARA (currently under development at STFC Daresbury Laboratory) and UK XFEL.
You will work on the development of advanced optical and electronic systems used to synchronise electron beams and pulsed lasers with femtosecond precision.
The role will be appointed at either UKRI Band D or Band E, based on how you meet the criteria below.
Band D Job criteria (essential)
- Experience in the design, assembly and operation of complex optical and electronic systems.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain concepts concisely and with impact.
- Excellent attention to detail.
Band E Job criteria (essential) - all the above, plus
- Significant experience in the design, assembly and operation of complex optical and electronic systems.
- Responsibility for the delivery of robust working systems, including technical supervision of staff towards this goal.
