An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 4 Nursing Associate to work in general surgery. Our nursing associate role is an integral part of the nursing team who provide care and support for adults of all ages who have had emergency or elective surgery or have been stepped down from the emergency hospital for ongoing acute nursing care.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and passionate individual for this post, who are confident in providing and monitoring care and contributing to the wider multi disciplinary team.

Ward 7 is an elective and emergency surgery ward, it consists of 31 beds and carries out a large number of operations each week as well as receiving transfers from the emergency hospital.

Nursing staff work in allocated teams and have their own patient work load. We are predominantly nurse lead and work closely with physiotherapists, specialist nurses and occupational therapists.

To have and further develop an understanding of the scope of the role of the Nursing Associate in context of the nursing and interdisciplinary team. To work confidently and effectively as part of a team and support management.

To provide fundamental nursing care and meet the needs of the client group.

We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate.High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. Working as a member of the nursing team under the direction of the Registered Nurse to provide and monitor care.

This means demonstrating a consistent leadership style which (a) engages, enables and empowers others (b) uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement and (c) facilitates team working and collaboration within teams / departments and across organisational boundaries.
