The Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Head of lead Superdry’s highly-regarded in-house legal team. Reporting into the General Counsel & Company Secretary, the Head of Legal will be responsible for Commercial Legal. The legal team at Superdry sits at the heart of the business and works in close, trusted partnership with a number of key business decision-makers. It plays a pivotal and highly-visible role in empowering and supporting Superdry to deliver success.

We are looking for a passionate, engaging, delivery-focussed lawyer to drive innovation and play a key role in delivering and executing Superdry’s ongoing transformation strategy and wider commercial objectives. Fundamental to the role will be an ability to solve practical problems, unlock opportunities and to build and maintain strong relationships with a number of key stakeholders on the operational sides of our business.

The role will be based at Superdry’s Head Office in Cheltenham. However, Superdry embraces agile working some flexibility will be possible.
You Will

Be responsible for managing the Commercial Legal, IP and Brand Protection teams and play a vital role in the leadership, direction and ethos of the team, as well as the professional development of team members.

Be a critical friend and “go to” advisor for the Senior Leadership Team, business-wide.

Drive process improvements across the legal function, including the way in which the legal team interacts with the wider business and uses technology to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

Work alongside the General Counsel on the strategic direction and priorities of the team.

Be accountable for the implementation of IP and Brand Protection strategies which safeguard the IP rights owned by the business and mitigate and manage any associated risks.

Be proactive and visible and ensure that the legal team is embedded within Superdry’s decision-making processes.

Ensure that Superdry is managing and mitigating regulatory and compliance risk by ensuring that the team stays on top of legal and industry developments including things like Brexit, product and consumer law.

Support the growth of Superdry’s global wholesale business by advising on international franchise, distribution and agency agreements.

Support the growth of Superdry’s licensing business by advising on product licence agreements and collaborations.

Work with the property and retail teams supporting our global retail estate.

Work with the marketing team on the formulation and activation of sponsorship agreements

Advise the business on procurement and non-stock supply agreements, such as IT and outsourcing deals.

Oversee and manage all IP and commercial litigation.

Manage the legal budget and, where required, the instruction of external counsel and other service providers.

You Are

A solicitor qualified to practice in England and Wales.

Commercially-minded, with an understanding of business operations, commerce and finance.

Technically capable with deep knowledge of the laws, regulations and processes which govern the key operative aspects of retail and consumer-led businesses, including IP law and consumer law.

Ideally experienced in working in a relevant in-house environment.

Meticulous and take personal pride in your work, instilling this approach throughout your team, striving to run a team that produces high quality work.

An experienced and successful leader of people, with the ability to motivate, drive, guide, develop and shape your team and your peers.

A strong communicator able to present confidently to senior level decision makers.

A highly organised, diligent person with exceptional attention to detail.

A team player able to work effectively and collaboratively with the whole team.

Located within daily commuting distance of our Cheltenham head office, or prepared to relocate.
