European Waterways Ltd is a leading inland waterways cruise company offering 6-night cruises for between 6 and 12 passengers along the inland waterways of France, Germany, Italy, Scotland, England and Ireland.
We are currently looking to recruit a Pilot to join the 6-person crew of our luxury hotel barge which cruises the Caledonian Canal between Inverness and Fort William. The barge accommodates up to 12 guests on all-inclusive weekly cruises, from early April to late October.
Duties include piloting a 39m, 180 tonne barge with twin engines, bow thruster and joystick control; securing it through locks and mooring; together with responsibility for the care, maintenance and cleaning of the outside of the barge. Mechanical checks - oil, water, filters etc - need to be regularly undertaken in the engine room as well as first line repairs where necessary, which includes the central heating and air conditioning systems, and batteries. Good customer contact is also required for which a genuine interest in hospitality and good local knowledge is preferred.
This is a live-in position with on-board food and accommodation provided.
Boatmaster or Commercial Yachtmaster preferred. Driving Licence essential.
Seasonal/permanent position according to experience.
