Output Operations is a key part of this work. We operate 24/7 and our teams support programme output across Radio, TV and Online. We work with a wide range of News output including for example Today, PM, Sports, World Service English and Language Service programming in Radio, and in Television, the 6 o’clock and 10 o’clock News, BBC World, Persian TV, Arabic TV and Newsnight.

Main Responsibilities
UK Output Operations support the best possible output on all platforms, built on a strong understanding of audience needs and integrated with production teams. Our team is made up of high-end craft, multi-skilled staff. A requirement for high quality output is key to the BBC’s reputation at home and abroad.

We work in all the technical areas of BBC News output which includes include Gallery operations - Lighting, Technical Coordination, sound mixing, vision mixing. Studio floor operations - Camera operations, floor manager.

We are looking for Multi-skilled Technical Operators who have the discipline in Technical Co-ordination.
- Be a key part of the gallery team to ensure our live programmes are broadcast to the highest technical standards.
- Operate the studio lighting desk with the ability to rig and set lamps in the studios to production requirements.
- Line up and assess the quality of outside sources including Skype and check the associated communications. Work with MCR and the Satellite Desk to establish and test incoming and outgoing sound and vision circuits and liaise with contributors and guests. Communicate with record/replay areas where appropriate.
- Operate camera controls (Camera Control Unit (CCU) and Robotics) to ensure high quality matched camera outputs in terms of exposure, black level and colour.
- Line up of gallery monitors in terms of black level, brightness and colour balance.
- Rig, de-rig, test, line up and operate studio equipment, including cameras, their mountings (including remote/robotic cameras, lightweight cameras and motorised camera mountings); monitors; lighting consoles; as well as any associated cabling.
- Meet the artistic, technical and safety requirements to fulfil customer demands, this includes rigging and setting up of prompting devices and computer equipment.

Experience of working in a live broadcast environment is essential for this role as well as being fully competent as a Technical Coordinator (lighting, communications, camera control & Robotics).

You will be a great communicator with the ability to think clearly under pressure and possess excellent organisational skills, strong IT skills and knowledge of newsroom production computer systems.

In addition, you will also need to have a broad knowledge of national and international news and current affairs; a good understanding of the journalistic and production aims of the output as well as the ability to facilitate editorial and policy decisions based upon a clear understanding of the BBC’s news agenda. A strong knowledge of health and safety legislation is essential.

You will work on a rota pattern which includes public holidays, weekends and night working.
