Phd Scientist

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a scientist to join one of the UK's leading clean energy businesses specialising in fuel cell technologies, a combustion free power generator that produces an electrical current from a chemical reaction. This technologycan be applied into electric vehicles, commercial heating systems and distributed power generators. To be considered for this role you should ideally hold a PhD in materials science, chemistry, chemical engineering, or closely related field and possess a firm understanding around the following: Ink formulation & development, ceramics materials and processing,electro-ceramics, ceramic sintering, electrochemistry, organometallic chemistry, polymer chemistry, sol-gels, and colloids. **Scientist Key Responsibilities**: - Provide strong scientific expertise in the development of SOC technologies from concept to product launch. - Completing background research into innovative materials and processing routes and create strategies for development. - Creating, implementing, and supporting strategies to characterise the performance and stability of the fuel cell. - Presenting technical progress and timing against delivery targets to the technical management and program management office. - Transferring process developments into the cell and stack manufacturing team. - Support processes for the development and manufacture of components used in SOC Technologies and be a trouble-shooter providing solutions to technical challenges faced in projects. - Support resolution of issues (technical, scientific, analytical, IP, etc.) that affect, or have the potential to affect, the development of SOC Technologies, component manufacturing processes, and meeting "life" and "cost" targets for product development. - Identify and analyse design problems to achieve optimal solutions that satisfy cost and technical requirements using both internal and external technical resources. Formulate new, innovative approaches to solve technical problems on a consistent basis. **Scientist Skills and Requirements**: - Hold a PhD in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field. - Scientific knowledge/understanding of some of the following: Ink formulation & development ceramics materials and processing, electro-ceramics, ceramic sintering, electrochemistry, organometallic chemistry, polymer chemistry, sol-gels, and colloids. - Experience with some of the following materials characterisation techniques: rheology, Particle Size Distribution, surface area (BET), SEM with EDS/WDX, XRD, STA/DTA, dilatometry, XRF, ACIS/EIS, electrochemical testing, indentation and mechanical propertiestesting, 3D tomography, SIMS, ICP-MS. - Experience with some of the following manufacturing processes: Screen printing of other thin film deposition techniques, ink formulation, synthesis of ceramic nanoparticles and ceramic sintering. - Demonstrate entrepreneurial, adaptability and can-do attitude to meet the goals of a fast-paced technology development environment. **Salary**: £40,000 - £50,000 **Benefits**: Pension scheme: auto enrolment at 2% by the employee and 6% by the company (with an option to increase this to 3% and 8% respectively), Annual Leave: 25 days per annum + Banks, Life Assurance: 4 x gross salary **Hours**: 37½ per week.
