Assistant Practitioner
This post offers an exciting opportunity to provide social and occupational support to individuals within the Offender Personality Disorder (OPD) Pathway, a partnership between NHS England and His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Services (HMPPS). The post is based in Durham and Cleveland, but our wider service includes Cumbria and the North East of England, and is part of CNTW’s Secure Care community services.
Rebuilding Lives is a psychologically informed service offering support to people who have committed offences and present with personality difficulties, which may affect their day-to-day function. The over-all aim of the pathway is to help reduce risk of reoffending, by helping the individual to understand the factors that have contributed to their difficulties, and develop alternative life skills and coping strategies.
The post holder will work under the supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist or Allied Health Professional, and alongside colleagues from Psychology and Probation. They will contribute to assessment, formulation and the development of intervention plans, and deliver practically based interventions and support. There is an emphasis on activities of daily living, and partnership working with local agencies to support community integration.
To assist in assessment, formulation and delivery of interventions to service users who have a variety of complex needs, a history of offending behaviour, diverse presentations and personality difficulties, under the direction of a registered practitioner.
The post holder will carry out this role in line with the regulations set for an Assistant Practitioner. They will competently care without the need for direct supervision and to a level beyond that of a clinical support assistant. The overall responsibility for the service user remains, at all times with the registered practitioner.
Post holder will contribute to risk assessment including feeding back risk factors to probation and health clinicians, documenting risk factors arising in their appointments and following risk management plans; including lone working policy.
We aim to attract and retain a diverse, talented and committed workforce, who are caring and compassionate, and therefore able to meet the demands of the modern NHS now and in the future. In return we can offer a dynamic working environment in which to build a career.
To implement and evaluate care as a member of the MDT ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered and that this promotes recovery and wellbeing and maximises independence.
To support the team in providing excellent and effective person centred care based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.
To assist colleagues in the provision of training to others.
To actively engage with supervision and appraisal process as identified in Trust policy
Assist the therapist to plan, design and develop therapy and intervention activities within the objectives of the treatment plan.
The post is across Durham and Cleveland, and will involve regular travel to and work within Probation offices and Approved Premises within the area, as well as within the local communities and some custodial appointments. As a wide geographical area this can present some challenges, but to assist with these demands, we support flexible working requests for example carrying out some duties (where appropriate) via TEAMS or other online platforms.
The post offers a number of CPD opportunities and we actively encourage personal and professional development via supervision, CPD and training activities. Applicants who do not meet the academic requirements of the post but fulfil other requirements, may be supported to obtain the relevant qualification.
Our service user group includes people who have convictions for violent and/or sexual offences. There are thorough risk assessment process for our community-based work but should you require more information please contact us to discuss the role.
