**Finance Apprentice**

**Location**: Bromborough - site-based role
**Salary**: £18,000 to £20,000 + AAT support
**Hours**: Full-time apprenticeship 40hrs per week

**The Role**

The Finance Apprentice is an entry-level position providing essential support to the daily financial operations of Marine Specialised Technology Ltd. This hands-on role offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience across a broad range of finance activities while studying towards an AAT qualification. The role involves assisting with the accurate processing of purchase invoices, supplier payments, and financial transactions, ensuring all postings are correct and completed in a timely manner. Working within a supportive and friendly team, the Finance Apprentice will gain valuable insight into the full accounting process — from transaction entry and reconciliations through to reporting and audit preparation.

**Scope**

The Finance Apprentice is an integral part of the finance team and contributes to the smooth running of the department’s daily operations. The role supports a wide range of activities, including purchase ledger management, transaction posting, supplier statement reconciliations, banking processes, and financial reporting. The Finance Apprentice will also assist in preparing documentation for audits, monitoring payments, and reviewing the trial balance to ensure accuracy in nominal postings.

Working collaboratively with colleagues across departments such as purchasing, stores, and operations, this role plays an important part in maintaining effective financial control and supporting accurate management information.

This role demands a proactive approach, inter-departmental collaboration, and strict adherence to deadlines, reinforcing the financial integrity and efficiency of the company. With structured training and mentoring, the Finance Apprentice will develop the knowledge and experience to progress within the finance team and build a successful long-term career in accounting.

**Key Responsibilities**

**Finance Reporting**
- Maintain accurate financial records within the accounting software to support comprehensive financial reporting.
- Assist in preparing the annual audit pack and ensuring audit readiness.

**Banking**
- Monitor goods receipt status and coordinate regular and ad hoc supplier payments.
- Process expense reimbursements and overnight payments, ensuring precise transaction postings.

**Transaction Management**
- Accurately enter purchase invoices into the OrderWise system, matching details to purchase orders for quantity and price verification.
- Collaborate with suppliers, purchasing, and stores departments to resolve invoice discrepancies.
- Manage credit and cash card payments, including monthly reconciliations and ensuring all supporting invoices and receipts are received.
- Review the trial balance to ensure transactions are posted to the correct nominal codes.
- Oversee petty cash and reconcile supplier statements.
- Manage the overhead/travel purchase order mailbox, raising orders and allocating costs appropriately.
- Monitor and manage the accounts mailbox to ensure timely handling of supplier invoices, statements, and queries.

**General Support**
- Complete tasks efficiently to meet strict deadlines.
- Support the finance team with day-to-day accounting tasks.
- Provide cover for colleagues when necessary to maintain a consistent level of service.
- Take on additional tasks as assigned to support the smooth running of the department.

**Competence, Knowledge and Experience Required**
- Good communication skills, adaptable across all organisational levels.
- Strong numeracy skills and exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently, demonstrating initiative and effective time management.
