Assistant Grower

Big Plant Nursery is based in West Sussex. The nursery grows and sells a wide range of Hardy Exotic, Architectural and Mediterranean plants along with a wide range of Bamboo, herbaceous plants and a supporting cast of essential items. Plants are propagated at the nursery, or imported and grown on in the UK.

Plants are sold to the general public as well as landscapers, gardeners, and other enterprises such as zoos and businesses with outside spaces.

This is a role suited to a plant lover with experience within the industry. You will be working in a team setting to ensure the successful cultivation and production of nursery stock.

The Role:

- Assisting in the production of nursery stock
- Monitoring for pests and diseases
- Irrigation
- Record keeping in respect of pest control and feeding
- Maintaining glasshouse environments, including daily maintenance checks on all relevant machinery and systems.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of growing and husbandry
- Experience of working within a horticultural growing environment.
- Experience of propagation using a variety of methods
- Knowledge and understanding of pests and diseases
- Horticultural empathy and excellent attention to detail - being able to notice issues with plant health and identify and put in place effective solutions.
- A genuine interest in growing hardy exotic plants.
- Team-player, good communicator - being able to listen to and follow instructions
- Ideally a qualification in horticulture
- Be practical, hands on and have high levels of common sense.
- Self-motivated and a passion for the industry
- Desire to grow and develop within the role

**Salary**: £22,500.00-£25,500.00 per year
