The Scientific Officer will be responsible for providing accurate, balanced and objective scientific information regarding Imperial Brands’ product portfolio to internal and external key decision makers and business partners as required as well as for providing project management support to the Behavioural Science Team within SS&E. This role will thus assist scientific interpretation and contextualisation as well as generation of scientific data as part of Imperial Brands legal duty of care activities as well as support the study management and generation of Behavioural Science data.
**Principle Accountabilities**
- Support scientific literature reviews and reviews of regulatory & governmental reports relevant to Imperial Brands’ scientific, regulatory and commercial strategies.
- Monitor, review, critique and report on literature developments in designated scientific topics and provide overviews and early alerts to senior leaders, and the wider Group Science & Regulatory Affairs function.
- Contribute to specific scientific questions requested to support the formation of scientific opinion & substantiation of scientific evidence and the positioning of the Group on scientific and technical issues.
- Strong collaboration and project management experience in coordinating internal stakeholders and managing external execution partners / suppliers to support Behavioural Science research projects.
- Coordinate with external partners to produce high-quality, scientifically accurate documents.
- Establish scientific evidence, records, and content in living documents, and re-evaluate regularly so that functions are working from a shared, up to date, blueprint.
- Support with identifying topics (horizon scanning approaches) which require expert opinion/ a formal report to support the Imperial’s Scientific and Regulatory Affairs narratives.
- Drive the development, editing and writing of articles for peer-review publications regarding key product and study results.
- Contribute to maintaining and developing relationships with strategic external partnerships, participate in regular update meetings and discussions regarding research projects and scientific developments with external experts.
**Key Skills, Education & Experience**
- Graduate qualifications or experience in an aspect of science related to tobacco & nicotine or health sciences e.g., toxicology, pharmacology, biological sciences, biomedical sciences or medical biochemistry etc.
- Experience in supporting qualitative and quantitative research acquired in academia or industry, preferably in a regulated consumer products industry such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, tobacco, food or cosmetics.
- Experience and skill performing medical and scientific literature searches and experience producing high quality scientific documents
- Ability to analyse complex and detailed scientific research papers, including concisely summarising and critiquing publications
- Strong organisational/prioritisation skills for the management of multiple concurrent projects and interdepartmental needs
- Curious in exploring new ways of working and proactive in proposing creative solutions and ideas
- Great communication ability at all levels within and outside the business, including presentation, written, oral and communication skills
- Superb attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal skills along with an ability to build and leverage strong and meaningful working relationships internally and externally.
Desirable
- Masters’ qualification in science.
- Experience in neurobiology, human biology, pharmacology, medicine, clinical or behavioural research.
- Understanding of tobacco & nicotine science and related products.
