The role of Clinical Support Worker (CSW) is an integral part of the theatre team.

You will be required to undertake a variety of tasks to support the team in the delivery of consistently high quality patient care in the peri-operative environment. These include working in the operating theatre as part of the integrated team, ensuring high standards of infection control are met, supporting patients within the perioperative department and checking and stocking of consumables.

Full participation in a variety of shifts including evenings and weekends is required.

The Clinical Support Worker (CSW) will undertake high quality, caring and compassionate personal care and associated duties under the direction and supervision of the registered professional and working as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

As a CSW you make a valuable and important contribution to the delivery of high quality healthcare in the Trust. Your role is to support the Registered Nurse/Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) in the delivery of safe, effective, compassionate care to patients and their relatives. This job description is to be read in conjunction with the person specification for this particular job.

As a CSW in the operating theatre environment you will participate in a full range of perioperative care which includes circulating duties and assisting with transporting, moving and positioning of patients both within the department and inter-departmental. You will also be expected to:

- Maintain high standards of cleanliness within theatres and the department as a whole
- Assist in Holding bay duties and acting as chaperone to patient
- Assist with completion of documentation appropriate to the patient’s individual care
