The Mortuary Team at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital King's Lynn NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to offer an opportunity to work with our dedicated team as a Mortuary Assistant.

As the successful post holder, you will form part of the Mortuary Team to fulfil an essential role in the Mortuary and Relative Support Service at the Trust.

You will also join the out of hours service rota to answer queries, facilitate viewings and deal with sudden deaths which are admitted out of hours.
- The post holder, under supervision, will be expected to carry out the following duties according to the appropriate Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring Human Tissue Authority and Health and Safety guidance is followed.
- To work under supervision within the department undertaking tasks delegated by the Anatomical Pathology Technologists.
- The post holder will adhere to the Human Tissue Authority Standards and maintain the dignity of the deceased at all times.
- To always maintain the dignity and respect of the deceased.
- Receive and record the receipt of deceased patients from wards and the community.
- Release deceased patients to funeral directors or authorised carriers.
- To maintain computer and written records relating to the admission and release of deceased persons
- Undress the deceased as required and place in the appropriate refrigerator using manual handling equipment
- Document any property and valuables accompanying the deceased in line with mortuary/ Trust and Coroner’s procedures.
- To liaise with Hospital staff, the Bereaved Relative support Office, Funeral Directors, the Coroner’s Office, and any other associated staff as required.
- Facilitate the completion of the necessary release paperwork.
