This role is based at the BGS headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham
Appointment will be at UKRI Pay Band C - salary range is £25,702 to £27,938 (depending on qualifications and experience)

About the role
We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Risk & Assurance Officer to join our small team, which is responsible for the development and operation of key aspects of BGS corporate management systems, including risk management, business continuity, external accreditations, internal audit programmes and providing performance information to senior management and the BGS Board.
You will help to ensure that these systems are well maintained and operating effectively by coordinating audits and other activities, collaborating closely with staff across the organisation to gather data and supervise progress, maintaining and updating records systems, and assisting with the preparation of regular management reports.
The role will also include significant interaction with the BGS Environment Advisor and the BGS Health & Safety Team in coordinating with those aspects of the management systems.
Reporting to the Risk & Assurance Manager, your key responsibilities/duties will include:
- Coordination of external audits and assessments associated with BGS’s ISO registrations.
- Coordination of internal audits including scheduling, liaison with auditors, review of reports, follow-up of findings and actions to completion and audit close -out.
- Acting as internal auditor within the internal audit programme to carry out quality and integrated management system audits across BGS.
- Development and maintenance of BGS management system documentation.
- Operation of the BGS corporate risk register, including liaison with programme and project managers to supervise and review risks and associated mitigating actions.
- Assisting with Business Continuity and Incident Response management, preparation of documentation and emergency scenario exercises.
- Coordination with other teams across BGS including those responsible for environment, safety, security and laboratory management systems.
- Assisting with regular risk and management system performance reports for Senior Management Board, BGS Board and NERC/UKRI or other external assurance review bodies.
- Deputise for the Risk & Assurance Manager during periods of absence.
- Ensure positive health, safety and environment performance across the area of responsibility.
**About you**:
This role will involve significant proactive engagement and communication with colleagues, staff and management throughout the organisation and beyond, so you will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
There will be a requirement to travel occasionally to other BGS sites, NERC Head Office or other UKRI Institutes/Centres. Whilst some of these activities can be carried out virtually, you will be able to travel and it may also involve some occasional overnight stays.
