Process Operator

Independent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of Britain’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw materialto the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for OEMs and tier-one supplierswithin the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.

Main Purpose of the Role

Reporting to the Lasco Stamps Supervisor, the purpose of this role is to produce extrusion press precision forgings using a variety of presses and other plant and equipment as training allows. Training will be provided to meet required skills standards andhealth and safety standards.

Key Accountabilities

You will ultimately be responsible for:

- Start-up checks and setting of machines.
- Operating of hydraulic, upsetting, crank and screw presses.
- Performing assigned tasks and duties in accordance to the company’s Health and Safety as well as Quality Standards.
- Manufacturing and processing forged products according to drawings and methods.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

- Experience within a hot metal process environment.
- General manufacturing process awareness.
- Experience with extrusion press (Lasco).
- Process focused and compliant.
- Ability to follow standard operating procedures.
- Basic Health and Safety and computer skills.
- Self-motivated and determined to succeed.
- Good interpersonal skills, particularly team work.
- Flexible and promote good working practices.
- Attention to detail.

Desirable:

- Experience of working as part of a 2-3mm crew on gravity and hydraulic hammers.
- Experience in pre-production sawing (long length bars into sawn billets).
- Experience in final processing of finished forged products.
- Experience in working in an Aerospace Production Environment to AS9100 Standards.

**Qualifications**:
Essential:

- Basic education of 5 GCSE’s above C, including Maths and English

Desirable:

- Forklift truck driver’s license.
- NVQ Level 2 in manufacturing/processing.
